La Cuerda Floja (The Tightrope) is the first solo guitar album by Chilean musician Luis “Toto” Alvarez.

Notes:
This work is the result of several years of research, exploration and practice around the guitar and its possibilities. Vertigo is the closest sensation to the development of this project, since in some way it summarizes the experience of dedicating yourself to improvisation, especially in Latin America. The uncertainty in which many artists live in this part of the world is undoubtedly a constant battle to deal with.

In this way, and after a long time facing my own ideas about music, I feel that this album closes one door and opens a new one. The development of one's own voice is a lifelong task, so I have learned to simply enjoy each stage of this adventure. Then at times, I feel that one must go further, to another place, without a plan, letting intuition act.

This is how these pieces were built: talking, walking, playing and listening. The result is this; a series of improvisations from an indeterminate plan but pointing to a clear place. By experimenting on the pieces and their acoustic effects, the compositions became complete in the studio. The subtleties of this album represent many of the influences that I have had in music. From various places and stories, they are invisible but perhaps audible, informally, absent and present...the story of many who have walked that tightrope.

At times, you can plainly tell the player from 100 yards away with your eyes closed, but then you can hear them echoing the ghosts of those who came before them.
